Spring travel in March in Jinju, South Korea
진주시가 여행하기 좋은 3월을 맞이하여 다채로운 콘텐츠를 준비하고 본격적인 봄 여행 관광객 맞이에 들어갔다.
진주시는 문화체육관광부와 한국관광공사의 3월 ‘여행가는 달’ 캠페인에 발맞춰 진주만의 특별한 봄 여행 콘텐츠를 선사한다. 특히 유등을 365일 관람할 수 있는 ‘진주남강유등전시관’의 야간운영과 남강 유람선 ‘김시민호’ 운항, ‘월아산 숲속의 진주’의 산림레포츠 시설, ‘진주진맥 브루어리’ 등을 통하여 이색적인 볼거리와 즐길거리를 제공한다.
▶ 진주남강유등전시관, 3월부터 오후 9시까지 운영
진주남강유등전시관은 물빛나루쉼터 김시민호 운항과 연계해 3월부터 11월까지 오후 9시까지 연장 운영한다.
전시관에서는 대한민국 등 공모대전 수상작, 화려한 실크등 터널, 유등의 연원과 진주의 정체성을 표현한 미디어 콘텐츠 등을 관람할 수 있으며, 3월부터 야간 운영과 함께 야외 옥상정원에는 축제기간에만 볼 수 있었던 유등을 상설 전시하고, 유등 띄우기 체험, 야광 생활소품이나 데코 조명 유리컵 등 유등을 모티브로 한 야간 특화 프로그램도 운영한다.
진주시는 전시관의 야간 운영으로 진주를 방문하는 관광객들에게 독보적인 야간관광 특화 콘텐츠를 제공하여 야간관광 특화도시로 굳건히 자리매김할 계획이다.
▶ ‘김시민호’ 3월 15일부터 운항 재개
남강 유람선 김시민호가 탑승객의 안전과 편의를 위한 정비를 마치고 3월 15일부터 운항을 재개한다. 화~목요일은 오후 1시부터 오후 9시까지 9회, 금~일요일은 오전 10시부터 오후 9시까지 11회 운항하며 월요일은 휴무이다.
김시민호 탑승객은 아름다운 남강을 따라 진주성, 촉석루, 의암 등 천혜의 절경을 감상하며 선상에서 대한민국 대표 관광캐릭터 ‘하모’와 함께 인생 사진도 찍고 관광해설사로부터 재미있는 진주의 역사문화 해설도 들을 수 있다.
특히 야간에 경관 조명으로 물드는 진주성과 진주남강음악분수대의 화려한 분수쇼를 감상할 수 있다는 것은 김시민호만의 매력 포인트이다.
진주남강음악분수대 또한 3월 15일부터 운영을 재개한다. 분수쇼는 매주 화~목요일 2회(오후 8시·9시), 금~일요일 3회(오후 7시·8시·9시)로 1시간 간격으로 펼쳐진다.
역동적인 체험이 가능한 월아산 숲속의 진주 산림레포츠단지에서는 3월 16일부터 새로운 시설인 ‘짚라인’과 ‘키즈어드벤처’를 추가 운영한다.
짚라인은 월아산 상공을 가로지르며 활강하는 친환경 레저시설로 시속 40km로 월아산 숲속의 진주의 풍광을 입체적으로 감상할 수 있고, 키즈어드벤처는 어린이를 위한 공중 로프코스 8개로 구성된 숲속 모험놀이 시설로 어린이들이 놀이를 즐기면서 근육 성장과 더불어 인지 능력과 자신감도 높일 수 있다.
월아산 산림레포츠단지에는 나무 구조물과 숲을 이용해 그물을 배치한 놀이시설 ‘네트어드벤처’, 곡선 파이프라인을 따라 하강하는 모험 체험시설 ‘곡선형 짚와이어’, 숲의 정취를 보다 가까이서 즐길 수 있는 산책로 ‘하늘숲길’, 산림 사이를 지나가며 자연을 감상할 수 있는 공중자전거 ‘에코라이더’등이 이미 운영되고 있다.
또한 4월 28일까지 ‘건강과 치유’라는 주제로 ‘2024년 주말특별체험 프로그램’도 운영한다. 치유걷기 ‘노르딕 워킹’과 치유원예 ‘봄의 정원’, 치유공예 ‘마크라메’가 준비돼 있다. 프로그램 신청은 네이버 예약 또는 현장 접수로 가능하다.
▶ 소힘겨루기 토요상설경기 3월 16일부터 개최
토요상설 진주소힘겨루기경기가 3월 16일부터 9월 7일까지 매주 토요일 오후 1시 30분 판문동 소힘겨루기장에서 개최된다.
토요상설경기에서는 전문해설사의 구수한 경기 해설, 이벤트 공연, 행운권 추첨 등 다양한 이벤트도 진행된다. 경기 관람은 무료이다.
소힘겨루기대회는 진주가 발원지이며, 예부터 남강변 백사장에서 모래를 뒤엎으며 펼쳐졌던 소들 간의 힘겨루기는 남녀노소 모두가 즐겼던 민속놀이다. 진주시는 전통을 계승하고 보존하기 위하여 매년 경기를 개최하고 있다.
▶ 전시·체험 풍성한 박물관 & 미술관
진주시립이성자미술관은 현재 상설 전시 ‘은하수로 흐르는 별’을 개최하여 회화·판화·도자기 등 이성자의 대표작품 36점을 선보이고 있다. 특히 고향 진주에 대한 사랑을 알 수 있는 미술관 소장품 ‘진주 1960', ‘진주 1962'도 소개하고 있다.
제2전시실에는 판화 소개 공간과 이성자 판화 작업실 포토존이 설치되어 있고, 2층 전시실 로비에는 판화 소개 영상, 퍼즐, 온라인 판화 체험, 스탬프 등을 통해 이성자 작품을 직접 체험해 볼 수 있는 공간도 있다.
일호광장 진주역에서는 지난 1월 16일부터 ‘378.5m : 역과 역 사이’ 기획전이 개최되고 있다. 사진과 지도, 신문 자료를 통해 1925년 경남선 개통으로 운영을 시작한 초기 진주역의 역사부터 오랫동안 진주역이 소재했던 천전동 일대의 발전사, 진주역이 생기면서 점차 경제·생활의 중심지가 되어가는 남강 남쪽지역의 현황을 살펴볼 수 있다.
진주청동기문화박물관에서는 2월 27일부터 기획전 ‘평거’를 개최하고 있다. 진주시 읍면동의 시대와 문화 흐름을 다루는 연속 기획전의 첫 번째 전시이다. 평거 지역을 대상으로 하는 이번 전시는 ‘평안의 땅, 진주 평거’를 부제로 하여 예로부터 살기 좋은 땅 평거의 이미지를 진품 유물, 영상 자료, IT 전시 기법 등을 활용하여 풀어냈다.
박물관은 관람객들이 참여할 수 있는 다양한 프로그램도 운영한다. 사전 예약한 가족관람객과 단체관람객을 대상으로 체험형 교육프로그램이 제공되며, 성인 및 유아 맞춤 프로그램도 운영된다. 평거 유적 공원과 연계하여 스탬프 인증 투어도 진행된다.
▶ 진주에서만 맛볼 수 있는 특별한 맥주, ‘진주진맥 브루어리’3월 본격 운영
중앙상권 논개시장의 ‘진주진맥 브루어리’ 시설이 3월부터 본격적인 운영에 들어간다. 진주진맥 브루어리는 다양한 콘텐츠 기반의 문화활동을 체험하고 시민이 소통할 수 있는 공간으로, 1층에는 양조문화 체험 클래스가 가능한 소규모 수제 양조장과 맥주펍, 2층에는 취식과 문화행사가 가능한 휴게공간 및 전시공간이 있다. 운영시간은 화요일부터 일요일까지 오후 5시부터 11시까지이다.
‘진주진맥’은 ‘진주 맥주, 진한 맥주, 진짜 맥주’라는 콘셉트로 우리나라 전통 토종 씨앗인 진주 금곡면의 앉은키 밀을 주원료로 제작한 고급 수제맥주로, 그동안 문화행사, 팝업스토어 등의 다양한 이벤트를 통해 뜨거운 호응을 얻은 바 있다. 진주진맥 브루어리에 방문하면 오직 진주에서만 체험 가능한 으뜸가는 수제맥주 ‘진주진맥’을 맛볼 수 있다.
진주시 관계자는 “따뜻한 봄을 맞아 진주를 찾는 방문객을 위하여 다양한 관광 콘텐츠를 준비했다”며 “진주로 여행 오셔서 3월의 봄 향기와 함께 행복한 추억을 만들어 가시길 바란다”고 말했다.

Jinju City is preparing a variety of contents for the travel-friendly month of March and has begun to welcome spring travelers.
In line with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization's March "Go Traveling Month" campaign, Jinju City will present special spring travel contents in Jinju Bay. In particular, the 'Jinju Namgang Lantern Exhibition Center', where lanterns can be viewed 365 days a year, is open at night, the Namgang cruise ship 'Kim Minho', forest leisure facilities at 'Jinju in the Forest of Wolasan', and the 'Jinju Jinmac Brewery' provide unique sights and activities.

The Jinju Namgang Lantern Exhibition Center will be open until 9 p.m. from March to November in conjunction with the operation of the Mulbitnaru Shelter Kim Min-ho.
In addition to the nighttime operation from March, the outdoor rooftop garden will have a permanent exhibition of lanterns that can only be seen during festivals, and specialized nighttime programs with a lantern motif, such as a lantern floating experience, glow-in-the-dark household items, and decorative lantern glasses.
Jinju City plans to firmly establish itself as a city specializing in night tourism by providing unique night tourism contents to tourists visiting Jinju through the night operation of the exhibition hall.
▶ 'Gimminho' to resume operations from March 15th
The Namgang River cruise ship Gimminho will resume operations from March 15 after completing maintenance for the safety and convenience of passengers. The ship will operate nine sailings from Tuesday through Thursday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., 11 sailings from Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and will be closed on Mondays.
Passengers on the Gimminho can take pictures with Korea's representative tourism character, Hamo, on board while enjoying the scenic beauty of Jinju Castle, Chokseokru, and Uiram along the beautiful Namgang River, and hear interesting explanations of Jinju's history and culture from tourist interpreters.
Especially at night, you can enjoy the colorful fountain shows of Jinju Castle and Jinju Namgang Music Fountain, which are illuminated by landscape lights.
The Jinju Namgang Music Fountain will also resume operations from March 15th. The fountain show is held every Tuesday through Thursday twice (8-9 p.m.) and Friday through Sunday three times (7-8 p.m. and 9 p.m.) every hour.
The Pearl Forest Leisure Complex in the forests of Wolasan Mountain, which offers dynamic experiences, will add two new facilities, Zipline and Kids Adventure, starting March 16.
The Zipline is an eco-friendly leisure facility that glides across the top of Mount Wolasan and offers a three-dimensional view of the scenery of the Pearl in the Forest at 40 kilometers per hour, while Kids Adventure is a forest adventure play facility consisting of eight aerial ropes courses for children, allowing them to grow their muscles while having fun, as well as increase their cognitive skills and confidence.
The Wolasan Forest Leisure Complex already operates Net Adventure, a play facility that uses wooden structures and forests to place nets, Curved Zipwire, an adventure experience that descends along a curved pipeline, Sky Forest Path, a walking trail that allows visitors to enjoy the forest atmosphere more closely, and EcoRider, an aerial bicycle that allows visitors to enjoy nature while passing through the forest.
There is also a special weekend experience program for 2024 under the theme of 'Health and Healing' until April 28th. Healing walking 'Nordic Walking', healing gardening 'Spring Garden', and healing crafts 'Macrame' are available. You can apply for the program through Naver reservation or on-site.
▶ Small Arms Wrestling Saturday Snow Games to be held from March 16th
The Saturday Saturday Jinsuhoe Wrestling Competition will be held every Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from March 16 to September 7 at the Panmun-dong Jinsuhoe Wrestling Stadium.
The Saturday games will feature a variety of events, including expert commentary, performances, and lucky draws. Admission is free.
The oxen wrestling tournament is a folk game that has been enjoyed by young and old alike since ancient times on the white sandy beaches along the Namgang River. Jinju City organizes the game every year to inherit and preserve the tradition.
Museums & Art Galleries
The Jinju City Lee Sung-ja Museum of Art is currently holding a permanent exhibition, "Stars Flowing into the Milky Way," showcasing 36 of Lee's representative works, including paintings, prints, and ceramics. The museum also introduces 'Pearl 1960' and 'Pearl 1962' from the museum's collection, which reveal his love for his hometown pearls.
The second exhibition room is equipped with a printmaking introduction space and a photo zone of Lee's printmaking workshop, and the lobby of the second floor exhibition room has a space where visitors can experience Lee's works through printmaking introduction videos, puzzles, online printmaking experiences, and stamps.
Since January 16, the exhibition '378.5m: Between Station and Station' has been held at Jinju Station in Iho Plaza. Through photographs, maps, and newspapers, visitors can learn about the history of Jinju Station, which began operation in 1925 with the opening of the Gyeongnam Line, the development of Cheonjeon-dong, where Jinju Station was located for many years, and the current status of the area south of the Namgang River, which has gradually become a center of economic and livelihood since the creation of Jinju Station.
The Jinju Bronze and Bronze Culture Museum has been holding a special exhibition, "Pyeonggeo," since February 27th. It is the first in a series of exhibitions covering the era and cultural flow of Jinju's villages and towns. The exhibition, which targets the Pyeonggeo area, is subtitled 'Pyeonggeo, the Land of Peace, Jinju' and utilizes authentic artifacts, video materials, and IT exhibition techniques to present the image of Pyeonggeo as a livable place since ancient times.
The museum also runs various programs for visitors to participate in. Hands-on educational programs are offered for families and groups who make reservations in advance, and programs tailored for adults and children are also available. Stamp certification tours are also available in conjunction with Pyeonggeo Historic Park.
▶ 'Jinju Jinmac Brewery', a special beer that can only be tasted in Jinju, will be fully operational in March
The 'Jinju Jinmac Brewery' facility at Nongae Market in the central business district will begin full-scale operation in March. The brewery is a space where citizens can experience various content-based cultural activities and communicate with each other, with a small craft brewery and beer pub on the first floor where brewing culture experience classes are available, and a rest and exhibition space on the second floor where food and cultural events can be held. It is open from Tuesday through Sunday from 5pm to 11pm.
With the concept of 'Pearl Beer, Strong Beer, Real Beer', Jinju Jinnmac is a high-end craft beer made mainly from Sittunki wheat, a traditional native seed of Korea, and has received a great response through various events such as cultural events and pop-up stores. Visitors to Jinju Jinmac Brewery can taste the best craft beer 'Jinju Jinmac' that can only be experienced in Jinju.
An official from Jinju City said, "We have prepared various tourist contents for visitors to Jinju for the warm spring," and added, "We hope you will travel to Jinju and make happy memories with the scent of spring in March."
