올 한해 꿈을 향해 수많은 도전을 하면서 성장한 1년 과정의 국내최초 갭이어형 대안고등학교 벤자민인성영재학교(이하 벤자민학교) 학생들이 지난 1년을 결산하는 축제를 열고 있다.
벤자민학교는 12월19일부터 21일까지 2박 3일간 ‘벤자민 인성영재 히어로 캠프’를 개최했다.
전국 10개 학습관에서 100여명이 참석한 가운데 열린 캠프는 학생들이 벤자민학교 전통인 국학기공과 댄스, 신나는 게임 활동, 서로간의 우정을 주제로 촬영하는 릴스영상 만들기로 활발한 웃음 속에 출발했다.
김나옥 교장은 브레인 명상시간을 이끌며 ‘벤자민학교는 세상의 틀을 깨는 학교인데 많은 도전을 통해서 자신의 틀을 깨고 성장한 여러분이 히어로’라며 벤자민학교에서 찾은 용기, 자연감수성, 홍익공생의 큰 꿈을 간직하도록 격려하였다.
또한 지난 한해를 돌아보며 ‘미용감사(미안합니다. 용서하세요. 감사합니다. 사랑합니다)명상’ 시간을 가졌고 학생들은 촛불을 바라보며 그동안 보살펴 준 선생님, 부모님, 친구들에게 진심에서 우러나온 감사를 전하며 따뜻한 감동을 나누었다.
둘째날 프로젝트 발표대회는 학생들이 1년간 진행한 많은 벤자민 프로젝트들 중에서 해외봉사활동, 역사탐방, 사진전시회, 영화감독, 벽화그리기, 도시농부, 등산동아리 등 다양한 주제로 발표를 진행하여 학생들 스스로 자부심과 긍지를 느끼고 공감하는 시간이 되었다.
지구시민의식 시간에서는 내가 생각하는 지구시민이란? 내가 살고 싶은 지구마을은? 주제로 토론하였고 모든 세대가 잘 어울리는 모습, 미세먼지와 전쟁이 없는 평화로운 지구를 발표하였다. 또한 다양한 프로젝트 경험 속에서 자신을 사랑하게 되고, 지구를 위해서 작은 행동부터 실천하게 되었다고 발표했다.
멘토특강으로는 글로벌사이버대학교의 창작콘텐츠학과의 손애경 교수의 ‘AI(인공지능)시대 보물찾기’ 강의가 있었다. 첨단 AI 기술발전 상황을 재미있게 함께 보면서 AI를 자유롭게 활용하는 인재, AI가 가질 수 없는 인성, 홍익, 평화의 마음을 가진 인재가 될 것을 전했다.
브레인 스포츠대회에서는 체덕지 교육을 실현하는 벤자민학교에서 연중 실시하는 브레인 12단 체조를 겨루면서 건강한 몸과 마음을 한껏 펼쳤다. 모든 학생들이 팔굽혀펴기부터 물구나무 서서 걷기까지를 하면서 추운 날씨를 뜨겁게 달구었다.
특별히 국학원 주최로 추진하고 있는 ‘기네스북 도전 나라사랑 100만 태극기 손도장찍기’ 프로젝트를 다 함께 참석하였다. 독립운동을 하던 열사들의 마음을 느끼면서 태극기의 의미와 가치를 새기고 대한민국을 사랑하는 마음으로 손도장을 찍는 시간을 가졌다.
둘째날 하이라이트인 브레인 아트 페스티벌은 학생들이 그동안 갈고 닦은 실력으로 검술, 댄스, 노래, 밴드 등 다양하고 창의적인 공연을 선보이며 청소년들만의 열정과 개성을 펼쳤다.
이어서 졸업생 선배멘토들과의 만남을 가지며 미래를 설계하고, 경찰청 치안상황관리실 김수진 소방령 멘토와의 만남을 통하여 건강하고 안전하게 도전과 꿈을 이루어나가는 길을 배우기도 하였다.
벤자민학교는 청소년이 일상에서 실천할 수 있는 자기 계발로부터 지역사회와 세계로 확장되는 단계별 프로젝트형 인성교육 활동과 국제교류 활동을 통한 글로벌 리더십 역량과 세계시민의식을 향상시키는 과정을 운영한다.
충남교육청 대안교육기관으로 등록된 학교로, 재학생들은 완전 자유학년제를 통해 자신만의 꿈과 진로를 찾는 1년의 ‘드림 이어(Dream Year)’과정을 밟는다.
Students of Benjamin School for Gifted and Talented Children (Benjamin School), Korea's first gap year alternative high school, are holding a festival to celebrate the end of the year, having grown through numerous challenges in pursuit of their dreams this year.
From December 19th to 21st, Benjamin School held a two-day, three-night 'Benjamin Gifted Hero Camp'.
The camp, which was attended by more than 100 students from 10 learning centers across the country, began with a lively laugh as students participated in Benjamin School traditions such as Gukhak qigong and dance, exciting game activities, and making a release video about their friendship with each other.
Principal Kim Na-ok led a brain meditation, saying, "Benjamin School is a school that breaks the mold of the world, and you are heroes for breaking your own mold and growing through many challenges." She encouraged the students to keep the courage, natural sensitivity, and big dreams they found at Benjamin School.
The students also had a 'beauty gratitude (sorry, forgive, thank you, love you) meditation' time to reflect on the past year, and they shared warm feelings by looking at the candles and expressing their heartfelt gratitude to their teachers, parents, and friends for their care and support.
On the second day, the Project Presentation Competition was a time for students to share their pride and feelings of empathy for the many Benjamin projects they have been working on throughout the year, including overseas volunteering, historical tours, photo exhibitions, filmmaking, mural painting, urban farmers, and hiking clubs.
In the global citizenship time, they discussed the topics of "What kind of global citizen do I think I am?" and "What kind of global village do I want to live in?" and presented a peaceful earth where all generations get along well, free of fine dust and war. They also announced that they have come to love themselves through various project experiences and have begun to practice small actions for the sake of the earth.
The mentor special lecture was 'Treasure Hunt in the AI (Artificial Intelligence) Era' by Prof. Ae-Kyung Son from the Department of Creative Content at Global Cyber University. While watching the development of cutting-edge AI technology together in a fun way, she encouraged the students to become talented people who utilize AI freely and have humanity, goodwill, and a peaceful heart that AI cannot have.
At the Brain Sports Competition, students showed off their healthy bodies and minds by competing in the Brain 12 Step Gymnastics, which is held annually at Benjamin School, which realizes virtuous education. All students heated up the cold weather by doing everything from push-ups to handstands and walking.
The students also participated in the 'Guinness Book of World Records Challenge for Love of Country' project, which was organized by Kookhakwon. While feeling the feelings of the independence fighters, the participants engraved the meaning and value of the flag and stamped their hands with love for Korea.
The highlight of the second day was the Brain Art Festival, where the students showed their passion and individuality by performing various creative performances such as swordsmanship, dance, singing, and band with the skills they have been honing.
he students met with alumni mentors to plan their future, and with firefighter mentor Kim Soo-jin of the National Police Agency's Public Order and Security Management Office to learn how to fulfill their challenges and dreams in a healthy and safe manner.
Benjamin School operates a course to enhance global leadership capabilities and global citizenship through step-by-step project-based character education activities and international exchange activities that extend from self-improvement that youth can practice in their daily lives to the community and the world.
The school is registered as an alternative education institution by the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education, and students take a one-year "Dream Year" course to find their own dreams and career paths through a completely free academic year.
