군북면 수생식물학습원 이웃 사랑 기부금 누적액 1억원 돌파!

옥천군 군북면은 군북면 대정리에 위치한 수생식물학습원(원장 주서택)의 이웃 사랑 기부금 누적액이 1억원을 돌파했다고 밝혔다.

수생식물학습원은 지난 2018년 학습원 정원에 6명이 겨우 앉을 수 있을 정도인 4.95㎡(1.5평) 넓이의 작은 교회를 짓고 이를 ‘세상에서 제일 작은 교회’라 이름 지었다. 그러자 방문객들이 이 작은 교회에 헌금을 놓고 가기 시작하였고, 이에 주서택 원장은 그 마음을 소중히 여겨 헌금 전액을 어려운 이웃들에게 사용하고자 2019년 5월에 교회 내에 헌금함을 설치하였다.

주 원장은 이렇게 모금된 헌금 전액을 2019년 5월부터 희귀병으로 투병 중인 다문화가정 A씨 가구를 시작으로, 지금까지 옥천군 내 질병이나 장애 또는 경제적 상황으로 인해 위기에 처해 있으나 여러 사정으로 제도적 혜택을 누리지 못해 복지 사각지대에 놓여 있는 10가구에 지정 기부하였는데, 그 누적 금액이 2023년 12월 현재 1억3백여만원에 달하게 된 것이다.

주 원장은 이외에도 지난 2007년부터 16년간 매년 추석과 설명절에 쌀 30포씩을, 2017년부터는 매년 현금 350~400만원씩을 빈곤가정과 불우한 노인 가구에 지원해 오고 있으며, 옥천으로 전입 오기 전 청주에서 목회 활동을 할 때도 맞춤식 구제사업인 ‘사랑의 나눔마켓’을 운영하여 불우한 이웃들에게 생필품을 무료로 나누어 주는 등 어려운 이웃들을 위한 여러 구제활동을 수행하였다.

이재창 군북면장은 “관내 소외되고 어려운 이웃들을 위해 지금까지 1억원이 넘는 큰 기부를 계속해 주시고 계신 주서택 원장님께 깊이 감사드린다”고 말했다.

주서택 원장은 “총 기부금이 1억원이 넘은 것은 전적으로 이웃 사랑을 실천하는 따뜻한 마음을 가지신 옥천군민 및 학습원 방문객들 덕분” 이라며 “여러분들의 작은 정성이 위기에 처한 어려운 가정에게는 희망을 주는 큰 기적이 되는 것”이라고 말했다. 이어 “이러한 기적들이 계속 만들어져서 우리 지역이 보다 따뜻하고 사랑이 넘치는 곳이 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

Gunbuk-myeon, Okcheon-gun, announced that the cumulative amount of donations to the Aquatic Plant Learning Center (Director Joo Seo-taek), located in Dajeong-ri, Gunbuk-myeon, has exceeded 100 million won.

In 2018, the Aquatic  Plant Learning Center built a small church in the garden of the learning center that barely seats six people, measuring 4.95 square meters (1.5 pyeong.), and named it the "World's Smallest Church. Visitors began to leave offerings in the tiny church, and in May 2019, Zhu set up a donation box in the church to ensure that all donations would be used to help those in need.

Since May 2019, he has donated all of the donations collected to 10 families in Okcheon County who are in crisis due to illness, disability, or economic conditions, and are in the welfare blind spot because they cannot enjoy institutional benefits due to various circumstances, starting with Family A, a multicultural family suffering from a rare disease, and the cumulative amount has reached 130 million won as of December 2023.

In addition, he has provided 30 bags of rice every the Chuseok and Lunar New Year for 16 years since 2007, and 3.5 to 4 million won in cash every year since 2017, to poor and disadvantaged elderly households. When he was a pastor in Cheongju before moving to Okcheon, he also ran a customized relief project, the "Love Sharing Market," to distribute daily necessities to needy neighbors for free.
