한국수목원정원관리원(이사장 류광수·이하 한수정)은 18일 국립세종수목원 대강당에서 ‘한수정 정원산업 종합시상식’을 개최하고 K-가든을 선도할 ‘올해의 정원식물’ 10종을 선정했다고 밝혔다.
이번 행사는 지난 6월과 10월 순천만국가정원과 국립세종수목원에서 각각 진행된 ‘2023 대한민국 정원식물 전시·품평회’ 결과를 종합한 것이다.
한수정이 사전에 모집한 국민품평단 400명과 정원분야 전문가 27명이 자생식물 220종, 국내육성품종 232종을 대상으로 색상, 질감, 활용성, 신규성을 평가했다.
그 결과, ‘2023년 올해의 정원식물’ 자생식물 분야에서 ▲종합 우수는 ‘눈갯쑥부쟁이’ ▲색상 우수는 ‘깽깽이풀’ ▲질감 우수는 ‘실새풀’ ▲활용성 우수는 ‘섬말나리’ ▲신규성 우수는 ‘알록큰봉의꼬리’가 선정됐다.
이어 국내육성품종 분야에서 ▲종합 우수는 털새 ‘오케이 골드라인’ ▲색상 우수는 가우라 ‘크리스마스 버닝’ ▲질감 우수는 비올라 ‘블루 미스트’ ▲활용성 우수는 해국 ‘국야백해’ ▲신규성 우수는 매발톱꽃 ‘공작’이 수상했다.
한수정은 이렇게 발굴한 우수한 정원식물에 대해서는 정원조성 시 활용, 국내외 시장 확산 지원 등을 통해 국민 곁에 아름다운 정원식물이 함께할 수 있도록 지원할 방침이다.
류광수 이사장은 “올해의 정원식물은 국민이 선호하는 정원식물을 발굴하고 확산하는 플랫폼”이라며, “앞으로도 다양한 정원식물 확산 플랫폼을 적극 활용해 국민의 일상이 정원식물로 풍요로워질 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 한수정은 매년 도시생물다양성을 높여줄 자생식물, 정원산업 경쟁력 제고를 위한 국내육성품종, 글로벌 트렌드 공유를 위한 국외품종을 한자리에 모아 국민들에게 소개하는 ‘정원식물 전시·품평회’를 진행하고 있다.

The event synthesized the results of the '2023 Korea Garden Plant Exhibition and Competition' held in June and October at Suncheon Bay National Garden and the National Sejong Arboretum, respectively.
The 400 national judges and 27 garden experts recruited by Hansoojeong in advance evaluated 220 native plants and 232 domestic cultivars for color, texture, versatility, and novelty.
As a result, in the field of native plants, 'Garden Plant of the Year 2023' was selected as ▲ overall excellence, 'Eyesore', ▲ color excellence, 'Kinki grass', ▲ texture excellence, 'Threadwort', ▲ utility excellence, 'Island anemone', and ▲ novelty excellence, 'Alok bigbong's tail'.
In the field of domestically grown varieties, the overall winner was 'Okay Gold', the color winner was 'Christmas Burning', the texture winner was Viola 'Blue Mist', the versatility winner was 'Kookyabae', and the newness winner was 'Peacock'.
Hansujeong plans to support these outstanding garden plants by utilizing them in the creation of gardens and supporting their expansion in domestic and overseas markets, so that people can enjoy beautiful garden plants.
"The Garden Plant of the Year is a platform for discovering and spreading garden plants favored by the public," said Ryu Kwang-soo. "We will continue to actively utilize various garden plant spreading platforms so that people's daily lives can be enriched with garden plants."
Meanwhile, every year, Hansoojeong conducts the 'Garden Plant Exhibition and Competition' to introduce native plants to enhance urban biodiversity, domestic cultivated varieties to improve the competitiveness of the garden industry, and overseas varieties to share global trends.
